With the current financial climate, many of us may be looking at ways to cut down on our household costs. As electricity is generally one of the biggest monthly household expenses, we thought it would be a good idea to discuss some ways to reduce the amount of electricity we use at home and help lower the cost. So, here are a few suggestions:
Did you know that cell phone and laptop chargers still use electricity when plugged in, even if they are not charging a device? Although it may seem like a small thing, unplugging them when not in use will help save a little, and every bit counts.
Turn off your computer when you are not using it, or if it needs to stay on, you can at least switch off the monitor. If you have the choice between using a desktop computer or a laptop, go with the laptop as it uses a lot less electricity.
Is it time to replace some of your appliances? If so, you can save a lot by choosing ENERGY STAR-rated appliances. You may also want to check the position of your refrigerator and freezer. Is it close to the stove, dishwasher, or even a heating vent? If so, this will have a big impact on its energy efficiency.
These are just a few electricity-saving tips. It is good to remember that every little bit counts when it comes to lowering your household costs.
